The Worshipful Lodge “Ippokratis” No. 16 is a unique Masonic workshop within the Grand Lodge of Cyprus, where Science meets Ethics and the Hippocratic Oath stands in harmony with the timeless principles of Freemasonry.
The purpose of this research Lodge is the cultivation, advancement and deepening of medical knowledge in the light of Masonic Reason. Between its Columns, scientific research is not confined to technical training, but is elevated to a spiritual ministry, serving Man as a unity of body, mind and soul.
The Lodge is composed exclusively of Freemasons who are physicians or dentists, who have taken the Hippocratic Oath and who seek to unite scientific precision with Masonic virtue. In a spirit of solidarity, virtue and humanity, they work to shed light on matters concerning human health, bioethics, the philosophy of Medicine and the inner transformation of Man.
Through its regular meetings, specialised lectures, scientific symposia and research papers, the Lodge “Ippokratis” offers a forum for dialogue of the highest order, in which Medicine, Philosophy, Bioethics and Masonic Symbolism are creatively interwoven, giving rise to new knowledge and deeper reflection.
Furthermore, the Worshipful Lodge “Ippokratis” aspires to become a centre of well-founded scientific and Masonic research, encouraging the writing of original studies, the presentation of research papers and the development of fruitful dialogue among the Brethren. The fruits of its Labours may be published and presented at Masonic and scientific events, forming a valuable legacy of knowledge for the Grand Lodge of Cyprus and for the wider Masonic world. Faithful to the principle that true knowledge has value only when it is accompanied by moral character and service, the Lodge seeks to create an enduring school of thought, in which Medicine, Bioethics, Philosophy and Freemasonry engage in creative dialogue, contributing to the spiritual cultivation of the Brethren and to the progress of society.
The mission of the Lodge is:
• to form physician-Freemasons who are not only scientifically competent but also morally upright;
• to promote medical science as an expression of love, ministry and service to our suffering fellow man;
• to cultivate a bioethical conscience and a Masonic perspective on the medical challenges of our time;
• to encourage original scientific research and the dissemination of knowledge within and beyond the Order;
• to work unceasingly for the benefit of humanity and to the Glory of the Great Architect of the Universe.
The Worshipful Lodge “Ippokratis” is not merely one more Lodge. It is a living centre of scientific research, moral cultivation, spiritual enquiry and Masonic brotherhood.
